Music

1st Quarter Goals


Kindergarten

During the 1st quarter kindergarten will be focusing on what a
steady beat is and how to find and keep a steady beat. They will also use and
identify the difference between singing, speaking, whisper and shout voices.


1st Grade

During the 1st quarter, students will focus on performing a steady beat.
Identify and perform the difference between fast and slow music, and music that is
high or low.


2nd Grade

During 1st quarter students will focus on demonstrating loud and soft
dynamics (p/f). They will also recognize basic forms of music such as
question/answer, call/response, repeated patterns, and AB.


3rd Grade

During 1st quarter students will focus on demonstrating and identifying
dynamics, piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo, and diminuendo. They will also
differentiate between ensemble groups/solo.


4th Grade

During the 1st quarter students will focus on performing and learning
about a variety of patriotic songs. They will also be working on matching pitch in
an extended range.


5th Grade

During 1st quarter students will focus on recognizing and reading all
basics notes/rests and adding in syncopated rhythms. We will also be working on
staccato and legato and how you perform these notations.

Art

We are beginning our year in all grades by discussing line, the various forms it can take and how it can be used to form different types of Art. 

 

5th Grade

Will progress into contour lines and self-portraits using printmaking. 

4th Grade

Will progress towards adding value to line drawings and working on proportions to create a self-portrait. 

3rd Grade

Will be learning about size contrast and how to balance large and small items in an image, as well as learning about new materials like chalk pastels.

1st & 2nd Grade

We are learning about abstract art and how shapes are used within the field. 

Kindergarten

Is taking the lines they are learning and using them to create 3d sculptures with paper. 

Pre-K

Is working on holding materials correctly, fine motor skills and identifying lines and colors. 

Library

Pre-K through 2nd

Students in primary grades will learn the procedures of the library as well as a love for reading first quarter.  Students will share books of friendship, fall, and fun this quarter while responding to the literature with art and writing projects.  They will also learn or review computer use, check out, and book care.

3rd through 5th

                Students in intermediate grades will also review all procedures of the library including check out, book care, computer care and usage, as well as set goals for personal reading this year.  These students will learn to use the district purchased websites, worldbookonline, pebblego and IXL.  Their instruction will be focused on locating and accessing appropriate materials from the library and digital sources.
